PREFACE

The world today is a divided house. The globe today has many fault lines which threaten the existence of the only known repository of life in the universe. It is these thoughts that led the authors of the book to propose a ‘Better Tomorrow’ based on an ideal world view that was delineated meticulously and comprehensively by Aryans in the form of Vedas about 3500 years back. The world can adopt it without causing any upheavals. The process of change would be as simple as the birth of a baby for which the mother bears acute labor pains in ecstasy.

Vedas are unique because they do not enjoin any religious duty of the type such as worship of any idol, or reading of any scripture religiously. It is pure knowledge about an ideal social organization based on profound understanding and experience. The models for organizing the world are based on processes and objects that are encountered by us everyday in our daily lives.  For example the natural cycle of water in the atmosphere that is responsible for rains and life on earth is the model for the social structure implemented with gods like Indra, Varuna etc.

Another simple and precisely known model was the human body. Every minute in the body millions of cells, many of them specialized, belonging to various organs, are replaced automatically without impairing the functioning of the system. It is as a matter of fact, a model of an ideal education system. Vedas term the social system based on above models as Viraat that means a society in which every one shines. Vedic rishis proposed Varnashram Dharma as a planned life, which was originally meant for willing acceptance by an individual. The system later degenerated as the caste system fixed by birth. As per Varnashram Dharma everyone, irrespective of his status began life as an ignorant shudra and through the struggles of life as Vaishya and Kshatriya qualified to become Brahmin god only in Sanyasa.

Unlike the modern world which rewards individual brilliance disproportionately, Vedic rishis stressed the importance of group activity in society building. This was institutionalized as Yajna as a very important social process. Everyone with whatever his or her might was welcome and honored in Yajna. This was symbolized by Aryan rishis by showing inputs from animals like cows, horses, sheep and goats in Yajna. Even the support of non-participating individuals was obtained for Yajna, which was symbolized by including inanimate objects like carts, herbs, broom, sieve etc in the ceremony. Purity of purpose, honesty in management etc made Yajna a profound instrument for each and every society building activity. With time Yajna degenerated into senseless killing of the animals mentioned above.

Science for long has been in search of a Unified theory of forces to attest individual theories of other forces such as gravitation, electricity etc. Vedic rishis gave the concept of Brahm encompassing such diverse domains as universe, human body, astrology etc to attest their claims in the social domain. Science of astrology links the universe with all its planets to the constituents of human body and also to the happenings in the world. Elements earth, water, fire, air, and sky not only constitute human body, in the social domain people could be characterized based on the properties of these elements. With this approach the happenings in the social domain could be analyzed in terms of known processes of another domain. All this should give confidence to those who want to work for Better Tomorrow on the basis of Vedas.

Vedic rishis contemplated that the process of change begins as even one person in the world decides to internalize the new creation like a mother conceives a child. Meticulous delineation of the whole process from the stage of conception to its final delivery as a complete human, documented in the Vedas, is a step-by-step guide for the change to take place through many generations.

The book opens in Chapter-1 with a hope that the truth will ultimately prevail, as that happened throughout history during the times of Buddha, Jesus and Mohammad. In recent past Mahatma Gandhi with his unique brand of spiritualism prevailed over crass injustice imposed on millions of Indians. In Chapter-2 the authors thought it proper to examine claims of scientific basis for the imaginary world of souls attached to Spiritualism. This was necessary because Vedic Spiritualism elaborated from Chapters 3 to 6 is scientific and has absolutely no myths associated with it.

Chapter -7 of the book titled ‘Better Tomorrow’ establishes the applicability of Vedic models to the contemporary world. Last paragraph of the above chapter summarizes the whole approach as applicable to the modern world. Simply stated in one word the path for Better Tomorrow is Education, especially of children at the primary level. The authors would like to state with modesty that they have already begun small exercises in realizing Better Tomorrow.

Chapters 8 and 9 trace Vedic symbolism in the two great epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata to give them a new meaning free from any myth. All italicized words in the body of the book find their meaning at the end of the book in   glossary.

The authors have no hesitation in admitting that they have only scratched the surface of the vast and profound literature Vedas. Hence there is considerable scope of improvement in the interpretation of various symbols, hymns of Vedas, and the puranic literature.
